shipping is NOT purely about sex

shipping is NOT believing two characters are already in a relationship

shipping is NOT wanting the show/book/movie to be purely about your ship

shipping is NOT automatically ignoring the actual overall plot

shipping is NOT a game

shipping IS, however, personally interpreting two characters’ feelings for each other as romantic and wanting their feelings to come to fruition so they can be happy

Well…it can be all of that. Shipping is whatever the hell you want to do with it. If all you’re in it for is sex, whatever. If all you watch a show for is a pairing, who cares? If shipping a pairing means you just want them to hold hands forever, why not? If shipping is just a side thing but you’re more interested in the plot, no one can judge. And shipping sure as hell can be a game sometimes.

I’m not sure what the OP is trying to say, or what they’re trying to fight against (possibly some extreme shippers), but this really isn’t my definition of “shipping.”

It’s not that Donna wasn’t attracted to the Doctor. I mean, that’s true, but it’s such a limited part of the story.

It’s that Donna never saw herself as good enough to be worthy of a guy at all, so the thought never even crossed her mind. For her, situations literally had to be engineered for a guy to like her. Her self esteem was so low that the prospect of someone fancying her was so far out of left field that it never took root in her head, and the two times it ever did happen were an evil alien trying to manipulate her genetic code, and a boy she didn’t think was real.

Ten and Donna not having a romantic relationship or attraction, therefore, isn’t some huge marvelous thing to me. It only adds another facet to her incredibly low self esteem. After all, no one’s going to want her, so why bother.

I don’t know — Donna doesn’t really hold back from expressing interest in guys or flirting with them, which suggests to me she’s not so insecure as to think no one could possibly like her. She’s certainly confident enough to want to use her “womanly wiles” in The Doctor’s Daughter, which I can’t imagine someone would want to try if they were that insecure about their sex appeal.

I think there are some problems with the way Donna’s lovelife gets treated on the show — mainly that Donna expressing interest in someone is often used as a gag, for… some reason? — but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say that the reason she’s not interested in the Doctor is because she has low self esteem and doesn’t think she’s worthy. I think she just genuinely sees him as an alien (and therefore not a suitable candidate), and not a particularly handsome one at that. TBH I think she’s more actively disinterested in Ten than vice versa.

Let’s talk about the sheer, simply brilliance in the way Tony Stark pierced Bruce Banner’s shield.

Bruce is, or once was, a truly depressed and damaged man. He sees himself as a monster, perhaps a failure at life and science for becoming one, and had gone as low as attempting suicide and even failed at that. He had sunk into obscurity, seeking peace in solitude and had long accepted that humanity in general will fear him, loath him, tiptoe around him, and forever see him as a monster.

He was not prepared for Tony Stark, who in his own simple, arrogant, self-absorbed way, ignored literally everyone’s perception of Bruce and formed his own opinion of the man before even meeting him. He walked in and commented on the hulk in the room as casually as if he was complimenting Bruce’s shirt. One could almost see his mental process upon seeing Bruce - “my age - cool; seems nice - cool; almost as smart as me - double cool; big green months thing - bitchin’”.

Tony Stark had likely decided before even meeting Bruce Banner in person that they were going to be friends. No matter how anyone else tiptoed around Bruce, Tony treated him like he did anyone else, by being a friendly, charming, outgoing, and generally irritating prick. His casual manner around Bruce allowed Bruce to relax around him. Just by being himself, he told Bruce wordlessly that it’s OK, there’s much more to him than the monster inside, and someone sees that.

It wasn’t so much that Tony wanted to show Bruce he didn’t care about the monster - he truly, genuinely did not care. He’s Tony “genius billionaire playboy philanthropist” Stark. He couldn’t be bothered with some little medical problem his new BFF has on the side. It just wasn’t a big deal. Not when there’s so much science to be done and so many toys they could play with together.

And all Bruce ever needed was for his big problem not to be someone else’s big deal.

For young moon bears Misty and Rain there can be few items more novel than a bubble bath. It’s not the first time we’ve used “child-friendly” bubbles as enrichment for cubs and both their curiosity and sense of fun were obviously working overtime as a result. Misty took to it straight away but Rain had to be convinced by her sister – though she got there in the end.
